Peta People
I’m all for treating animals with kindness and respecting the balance of nature, but we aren’t to serve the animals. PETA and the people that follow the organization are in my opinion nut job extremists. They don’t even think we should have pets because it’s cruel to the animals to have human companionship. Yes I did read that somewhere.
We aren’t to exalt them or treat them like they are humans either. They have a right to live just like any other creature but they are not on the same level as humans. I’m sorry I just don’t see it that way. Only one creature was given the ability to make inventions, to know the difference between right and wrong, and to have a freewill. We are, in my opinion, put here to take care of and maintain the animals and earth. Which sometimes we botch that up royally. I believe in conservation but don’t take it to the extreme.
Like global warming, in my opinion, is bull crap. Just another way for the government to take money for something that’s not going to help the earth at all. I believe it’s just the earth going through another cycle, they even have it predicted and have made charts showing the earth heats up and then cools down every few hundred years. Besides, it’s been much colder the last few winters for me to believe we are going to all burn up. China is the largest polluted country on earth yet they do little about it and then you have the states, which does produce a lot but not as much as them and we are saddled with stupid taxes and laws because of the green peacers. Wow I got off track…
Anyways to the main point of my whole ranty type entry here. I recently was linked an article about PETA wanting cats to go Vegan. That just made me go ‘What the crap???’ Cats are meat eaters, plain and simple. To deprive them of meat is not only unhealthy, it’s cruel and that cat will either suffer for it or if it’s outside will look for meat itself. They are going against nature itself and what they stand for, prevention of cruelty to animals. Stupid! That’s all I have to say. It’ll only cause more problems than solve.
Then after seeing said article I tripped over another which just makes me dislike PETA even more. It was about it’s founder and she is a certified nut job. Seriously I’ll take a quote from this article.
The folks at PETA are apparently concerned that there may still be a few people who aren’t aware what they’re all about. So the President of PETA Ingrid Newkirk posted her will on the PETA site…just to ensure we knew she’s crazy. What is she instructing PETA to do upon her death?
One of my eyes be removed, mounted, and delivered to the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a reminder that PETA will continue to be watching the agency.
That my pointing finger be delivered to the owner of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. That one of my ears be removed, mounted, and sent to the Canadian Parliament to assist them in hearing. A little part of my heart be buried near the racetrack at Hockenheim, preferably near the Ferrari pits, where Michael Shumacher raced in and won the German Grand Prix.
If you want to read more check out this site for the article and this site for the will.
How CRUDE and disturbing is that? I think I’ll end my little blip here with just saying I do not like PETA or Green Peace, I think both take things WAY too far and they are total extremists. We should respect the earth and try to keep a good balance, as in not abusing our powers or the animals and resources we have.
It’s the Person, Not the Program
I get A LOT of comments about what programs I use to draw with etc. For the last decade I basically have used some form of Photoshop to make my digital art. I have tried others and just didn’t like them, I’m hooked on Photoshop.
Many of the people who ask me are just curious, but I do get the random few who make comments like, “If I get your programs then I can draw just as good as you!!!” or “I will be able to make animations just like you!!!”
EEEEE Wrong!!!
Just because you have a program doesn’t mean you will have the skills to use it. It takes practice, and most of the time a TON of it. It annoys me but at the same time amuses me as well that people think if they get some particular program, pencils, paper etc that they will be able to do exactly what I or any other artist can make. I always tell them, it’s the person not the program (or fancy materials) that makes the art. Lots of hard work and effort, and I usually don’t even recommend a program when they are first starting out because they get so caught up in the ‘special effects’ that they lose site of good anatomy and composition. If you start out with sketching on paper, it’s dull maybe, but you can see all your errors better that way. Start small and work your way up, that’s how everything goes in life.
Another thing I try to steer people away from is using my art or anyone else’s for that matter as a reference. I mean sure I’m honored you find my art THAT good, but if you do ref it you will copy MY mistakes. It’s better to use photos and do real life studies than to run off of someone else’s art. You also prevent style theft and whatnot by doing this. When I was younger yes I reffed A TON of Disney, Don Bluth, and Dreamworks movies. I didn’t really know any better, but then I hit a brick wall and couldn’t improve anymore. I had copied movie stills for so long that my own original art suffered a lot. So around my last year of high school I switched to real life subjects and my art improved ten fold. Since then I have steadily improved over the years.
I always give this advice so people don’t get stuck in the same rut that I did. So now my question of the blog! Do you ever get stuck in a rut? Whether it be art, music, writing…or something else!
In Yo Face
I hate when people tell me I’m not going to be able to do something. By that I mean something I can do but they say I can’t do it better or that I can’t make it work. I LOVE proving them wrong. I have been told that I was not good enough at drawing to become an animator or get into any kind of professional art job, I practiced hard and long and whoop I am an animator now and actually graduated with a fairly decent grade. I have had only three commissions from companies, all small ones, but it’s a start. I sometimes don’t feel that proud of what I have achieved but when I step back and look at it all…I think it’s a lot more than what most achieve. I know a lot who give up along the way, but I know it’s worth it to stick it out. This is just one of the things that I have been told I wouldn’t make it to or been told it was foolish.
I also get people, from time to time, that just assume I can’t do something. Long time commissioners even will tell me I’m good for cartoon canines and felines only, when it’s obvious I can do much more than just that. That’s one thing that always annoys me is when they don’t even LOOK at my examples. Or I get people who ask for my price list, I link them and then they STILL ask me how much something is and how long it will take when I state all of that in my info. I understand just casual visitors not checking that kind of thing but if someone is truly interested in commissioning me, for cripes sake read my pricing list and TOS and look through my galleries. It’s not that hard to do. You make me happy when you do.
Ok random question of the post… what is one thing that really annoys you??
