This is something that annoys me a lot. Over the years I have been a part of numerous “community sites” mainly for art, like Deviant Art, but also the random fandom as well. Lord of the Rings, Pirates, and Balto being my main three a few years ago. Anyways, after being on these sites for a while you get familiar with certain people, they stop by your profile say hi and yous tart talking through the site, you enjoy their feedback.

Then one magical day you tell these people on the site that you no longer are interested in the fandom, or you are tired of trolling or e-dramas so you are moving on to greener pastures. You leave contact info behind and maybe a personal site where they can keep updated on your life and art or whatever you might do. You tell people that anyone interested in keeping up to date with your works and life can go there or give you an e-mail. You have the loyal friends that will go to the ends of the earth to keep in touch, then you have the good acquaintance that will drop you a line once in a while to make sure you are still alive. Then there is the last little group of “friends” who talk to you religiously on these sites but the moment you decide to leave for whatever reason, no matter how valid, they refuse to keep in touch with you outside of their little realm on it.

I have had a lot of people just stop talking to me because I left a site, I have even had people chew me out and get pissed at me for leaving. Why? It’s my choice. If I’m tired of dealing with other people’s crap on a site and have a choice to put up with it or not, don’t you think I will opt for the not? You tell these people to keep in touch because you value the fact that they talk to you and whatnot, and you like to consider them a friend/buddy but then they turn out not putting in any effort. Friendship is putting out effort, if effort is not there it’s not really worth it. It can’t be a one sided affair. I really dislike when people call me a ‘friend’ just as a social status thing on these stupid sites, or they only want to be friends so long as it’s convenient for them. As in they don’t have to go off their precious site. A TRUE friend won’t do that and will actually make an effort, whether convenient or not, to keep in touch.

Just my little rant for the day.
