So I did end up going to see it cause Lion King was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid. I’ve gone to every theatrical release they’ve done of it and it’s probably my 5th time seeing it in cinema but it never gets old. The 3D added a cool effect, gave the backgrounds a lot more depth. It was kind of like the Disney view master I used to have. 2D that popped out at you. Would I recommend it? YES! I’m normally not to “ooo yay” on 3D but I liked seeing it like this. It was pretty neat. If they were to release Aladdin or something like this I would definitely give it a watch. I’m not gonna say anything on the movie cause… if you haven’t seen it or heard of it I’m going to question what rock you have been living under for the past 17 years.

I’ve heard it topped the box office this weekend, way to go Lion King! I hope it goes to show that it’s not 2D that is selling poorly it’s the weak story lines that have gone with it!

I’m trying to get back into them slowly. Been working on a short animation of Greykitty. I’ve got almost 50 frames so far, I’ll be posting it when I’m done. Whether I clean it up or just leave it sketchy. Also been trying to practice anatomy by just drawing with a pen so I don’t have the convenience of an eraser. Here’s a couple quick webcam shots of ‘em. I’ll be doing more and making a little gallery for them eventually. I hope to improve by doing this.

I been busy finishing off artwork for others. I’ve gone through 116 soda icons! Holy moo cow was that a lot. Designed six characters for someone, that was pretty fun. Once I can I’ll post a little preview of them.
So that’s about all I’ve got for now. That’s all for now folks!

I watched about a year ago, but I came across some great storyboard animatics form the film and wanted to share them. I love looking at concept art for movies and seeing what they looked like in production and then how they look afterwards. In a way I kind of wish they had made this movie in 2D. Anyways, check out the trailer and the two animatics below and then if you haven’t seen the movie, rent it!

The last part of my top 20! Just so everyone knows I DO NOT have a specific order. These are just my top twenty favs. So they are not labeled in order of “greatness”. I’ve had a few people ask me about this. :P

4. Beauty and the Beast

I’m sure everyone knows this movie so I don’t really have to explain it much. The animation is beautiful, the characters are great and the music is excellent. It’s another of the 90′s Disney classics. I haven’t got much else to add about it so I’ll leave it at this!

3. Howl’s Moving Castle

This movie is strange but good. The story is something I never would have expected of guessed how it would end. It is so out of the norm from what I usually watch, but that’s one thing I love about it. Recently found out it’s based off a book too, I must get my hands on it. Anyways tis a great movie, good animation, music, and characters. Everything is memorable about it, I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys fantasy movies.

2. Toy Story

I always loved this one from a little kid on up. Although it sparked the fall of 2D. It is still one of my favorites. Great characters, nice story, excellent animation, and for the time ground breaking. The music is nice, even if I’m not a big fan of Randy Newman, the white man with a black man’s voice. None of the characters sing either! Yay! That would not have fit in the movie anyways.

1. An American Tail 1&2

Ok yeah so it’s not just one movie but I kind of clump these two together because they are equal in excellence. I loved both of them, however their other sequels…not so much. We won’t go there though. The first was directed by Don Bluth and everything has the grungy type style that he is known for, the second was updated in the 90′s and directed by Steven Spielburg. The animation isn’t quite as grungy as the first and the character designs have changed slightly. I do prefer some of the designs in the sequel over that of the first one but overall they both have great animation. Both stories are good, the first is more emotion driven and the second is more comedy. Both have singing mice, but at least they are short songs and most are pretty good. The scores are great on both, they are two of my favorites from Horner. Not much else to say on that! :)

The third part of my top twenty list!

9. The Road to Eldorado

Ok granted this is one of those typical buddy films but it’s funny, the animation is awesome, and the story moves along fast. I really have always enjoyed it and I figured since it’s one of my favorites I would include it. It does have a bit of adult humor, hence the PG rating, but if you don’t mind that I recommend it. It’s a fun movie.

8. Hercules

The story is well typical hero, you know who’s gonna win, but this version is just so darn funny. I love it. It’s so colorful too. It’s pretty unique in style. It still looks Disney but there is a certain style to the animation that separates it from the rest. This is one of Disney’s best animated comedies. The characters are enjoyable, although a bit cliche, but hey! The music is pretty good, didn’t care for all the songs but most I liked or thought were funny.

7. 101 Dalmatians

I couldn’t leave this one out. It was my ultra favorite film as a small child. Then Lion King came out and that changed but I quite love it. Even to this day. The characters are great, the animation is nice and YAY no singing doggies! It follows the book to a certain extent but then deviates, which works for the movie. I still enjoy the animated version more than the live action. It’s a Disney classic and I recommend it to everyone!

6. Gulliver’s Travels

This is a really old animated film, but it’s one of my favorites. It was made in the 30′s but in color. It has that old classic cartoon style, the animation is so old school. I love it! The songs are nice too. The story doesn’t really follow the book closely but eh it’s got the gist of it. It’s a fun movie for just about anyone in my opinion. I grew up with it though so I might be a little biased there.

5. The Emporer’s New Groove

I loved this movie from the time it came out. It’s great! The humor, the characters, the story, and the animation. Overall it’s a well rounded movie and *gasp* another Disney with not much singing. I think there are… two songs maybe, but nothing extreme. I like that. What more to say… it’s like the only full length movie to revolve around a llama… I think… yeah.

Here is Part Two of my top twenty!

14. The Lion King

Of course no list would be complete with out this one! It’s just one of those Disney films that’s so good it makes it on to just about every list. I loved it as a kid…wait I would say I was borderline obsessed with it at one point. Kind of embarrassing but hey at least I have taste? …I think. If you haven’t seen this I’m going to ask what planet you are from. Animation is amazing, story is great and endearing, powerful score and the songs fit it so well. I really don’t have anything negative to say about it.

13. Titan A.E.

A lotta people are probably going to say “What?! Why did you choose this one?” Well despite it’s rather large plot holes I really enjoyed it. It does have a good story, and well as for the plot holes where that’s where imagination comes into play. Or fan fiction! Anyways the story was one that kind of kept you guessing what the characters were going to do next. The animation was great and the music was not half bad too. It was a flop in the box office, which I mainly will blame lame advertising by Fox. It’s a good movie for anyone who enjoys sci-fi and animation.

12. Mulan

Another great Disney movie, I love the story, the animation and the music. Though the end is a bit rushed the comedy during the first half makes up for that. I enjoyed the fact it was not a typical princess movie, the heroine was not just a prissy snit, she was tomboyish to a certain extent. Mushu is just great too. Tis one that if you haven’t seen you should.

11. Treasure Planet

Another of Disney’s attempts to make something more geared towards adults, and I liked it! No singing! Huzzah! Where Atlantis failed in this Treasure Planet won. The characters were great, good music, the storyline was good. Naturally it was based on the book but the whole concept of it taking place in space was pretty cool. The animation was just wow, everything was so detailed and nice. I don’t think it’s really given the credit should have and I really think if Disney had kept making 2D’s in this more adult theme they would have really succeeded well with it. It’s not too childish but it’s not so adult that kids won’t get it either.

10. Up

I’ve already reviewed it here but it totally deserves a spot on my list. I have not been a big fan of 3D animated films just for the main reason, most these days have no decent storyline/plot and are pretty much epic fail in my opinion. Up really surprised me on that! It sounds utterly ridiculous but once you start watching it you get so wrapped up in the characters and the story it all just kind of makes sense. There was only on part I found way too much of a stretch but overall it is one of the best Pixar movie ever.

My friend was showing me the top 50 list someone put together and it made me go … WHAT? So I decided to put together my own list of what I think are some of the best animated films. I will do 5 at a time so I don’t like make one gigantic entry.

20. The Cat Returns
This is a really neat movie. I’m not real big on anime but this one’s story was pretty intriguing and I wanted it to keep going after it had finished. It also helps that it was about cats too. The story follows a young girl, after she helps a stray cat, he vows to help her for her kindness. She is then swept off to the kingdom of cats. There she begins to transform into a cat and the king cat tries to force her into marrying his son. She then tries to make her escape with a few cat friends she has made on the trip before she forever remains a cat. That’s all I’ll give about the movie.

19. The Prince of Egypt
It was really over hyped, but for all that it was a very good movie. The animation, the story, the music, the acting. It was all very well done. I think it is the best Dreamworks 2D. They have yet to come up with another that was as groundbreaking or moving since then. I don’t have to say much about the story since most probably know, but it follows the story of Moses from the Old Testament. For a child’s movie, it follows the story pretty well. If you have not seen it check it out, I have talked to people who don’t even really know the story from the Bible and are not of any faith and they enjoyed it too. So it’s not just a “for Christians only ” movie.

18. Balto
Overshadowed by the Lion King and Toy Story, Balto came out at just the wrong time. It was one of those lesser knowns by Universal that was really pretty good. It is a shame it didn’t do better in the cinema. The story is interesting, the characters although a bit predictable are still fun, the acting is great, animation smooth, music is excellent. One thing I LOVED about this movie is none of the doggies broke into song like most “Disney-esque” movies, nor was the villain killed. It is based on a true story but really has absolutely nothing to do with it other than there was a race to save the children of Nome. It would have been nice to have seen it at least resemble the real story in more than just one way. Other than that downfall it is a good film. It’s been one of my favorites since I saw it back in December of ’95.

17. The Iron Giant
This is, again, one of those films that never got the credit it deserved. To be able to evoke an emotional response from the audience over a robot is pretty darn hard. The animation is amazing and the story is even better. Excellent casting, plot, music… I can’t really think of anything I didn’t like in this movie. It starts off with a boy who finds a giant robot during the height of the cold war. He tries to keep it secret because he doesn’t want the government to kill the robot. It follows his journey with the robot till the end where the robot sacrifices itself to save the whole town. Definitely one to check out if you haven’t seen it.

16. Aladdin
Again a favorite of mine since childhood. I have always loved it, the acting, the animation, the music. It doesn’t follow the “original” story that closely but meh I don’t care. It was a neat take on it all. It has a great balance of humor and seriousness. I don’t really think I need to explain the story since most everyone knows it. If you haven’t seen this one… I will ask what rock are you living under? Go see it!

15. The Land Before Time
The first, the original, Land Before Time, is really excellent. The story is very emotional and the music carries that so well. The animation is typical Don Bluth, a bit grungy and it fits so well. I always loved this movie since I was little. I also really appreciate that there is no singing dinos in this film. It starts off with Littlefoot and follows him through his journey to the Great Valley where he hopes to find his Grandparents after his mother dies. On the he meets with many other young dinosaurs also separated from their families. It’s a classic and if you haven’t seen it, do so! Avoid the sequels at all cost though, they are terrible and just put out to make more money off the franchise.

The whole idea of a house that flies with balloons and talking dogs that fly planes is utterly ridiculous but by thunder the story is amazing! I have not sat in a movie for years now, especially one that’s animated, that made me tear up. This one made me! That’s a very rare occurrence. I really didn’t think they were going to build up the characters as well as they did, but DANG I underestimated this movie severely.

Right off the bat they started out building up the characters and they didn’t do it in a boring way. I applaud them for that as most movies that try to build up a character tend to make it long and drawn out and I lose interest. I can’t say I found any of the characters annoying. The boy WAS annoying but still like-able. If that makes sense. The animation is really really really good, like usual. Good music to go with this one too. The theme of the movie is most excellent. As I said earlier the whole premise of the movie is utter cheese but the story brings it together and makes it work somehow. This is one that I would recommend anyone see, though it’s got more of a mature theme to it. In places really little kids won’t understand what is going on or it might frighten them a little. The woman behind me brought her two daughters, oldest being 6, to the movie and most of the time I kept hearing comments like “Mommy that was scary” “mommy what happened to the old lady?” “mommy why are they doing that?”. Very annoying so just advice don’t take any kid under 6 to see it unless they are very mature for their age. lol

Oh and the short in front of the movie was great! Very funny and had a good little plot to it. I kind of wish I could have seen this in 3D, it would have been even better, but it’s great just in the normal theater.

Updates on the site: MOAR ART go see. :B

Ok so I got a new layout up, really not what I normally do BUT I LIKES DAT. I dunno if I like how it is at the moment, but I am working on it. Still has a few bugs here and there. I originally wanted to make a floater on the bottom so that the grass would overlay the layout BUT I could not get it to cooperate with me in wordpress, that and when I tested it in Internet Exploader it was like “Nope, not gonna happen mate.” So I scrapped the idea, at least for now. I may try to use it on future layouts if I can work out the bugs. Anyways for now I just have this one with it’s expandable background. So no matter how obnoxiously large you make your resolution it will always eat up your entire window. >) If you find any really horrid glitches with it please let me know. I’ll also be launching my new image gallery this week, which I will post an update about it, either edit this one or make a new one just for it. XD oooh oooh >.> Oh and I’ll be linking to the guest gallery and posting some new downloadable goodies for you most excellent visitors. Keep your eyes peeled.

*Edit*
Ok folks I got my new gallery up, check it out! I also added a new animation which you can check out on my animation page… ok that’s all. Yea I know that was fast adding all that… Oh and guest art is also now linked on my works page.
