Anywho, the characters are interesting, none of them did I find really annoying. I didn’t like humpty dumpty that much, but I didn’t find him obnoxious, so that was a plus. Kitty Soft-Paws was great; I liked her a lot. Puss… well I always liked him, he’s pretty much the same as you see in the other films. The cast was put together well, all of them fit their roles rather nicely. The music was good! By the same composer as X-Men First Class, Henry Jackman. Had a good Latin theme to it, very up beat. I enjoyed it, and will probably buy the score.

The story was not really what I was expecting, but that’s fine by me. It was still a silly fairytale, but very much different from the Shrek series. I liked it more actually. I just hope if they make a sequel to this, cause you know it’ll happen if it sells well in the box office, that it won’t turn into another Shrek sequel. Anyways, the movie was pretty fast paced, I didn’t get bored with it.
I did not see this film in 3D, so I cannot comment on the effects in that realm, but I honestly don’t think you need to see it in 3D to appreciate it. It was fine the way it is. Will I recommend it in theaters, sure! 3D? Well if you want to fork over the extra $5 sure. It’s a nice popcorn flick, full of funny felines, good music, and a fun story; I’ll be getting on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

I’ve heard it topped the box office this weekend, way to go Lion King! I hope it goes to show that it’s not 2D that is selling poorly it’s the weak story lines that have gone with it!

First is ‘Priest’. The main character is so bland and boring that I think a cardboard cut out would have sufficed for the role. He shows like no emotion. Ok I get it that he’s supposed to be this bad arse guy that slays vampires BUT the acting was stiff. Actually I found the only actor that really got into it, other than one of the head… uh… church dudes was Karl Urban. But I’ve thought he’s awesome since I first saw him in Lord of the Rings, I’m biased I guess. :B

The story was boring. I kept looking at the clock throughout the whole film wondering when it was going to be over. I really hope the graphic novel it’s based off of is better cause… I don’t see how it became a movie in the first place if not. So many characters pop up for a few seconds, aren’t really explained and then just disappear again. The villain was cool, had a retarded name though “black hat”, but he wasn’t in almost half of the movie.

*spoiler* He was supposed to be like this really hard to kill super human/vampire and was pretty tough but then in the end they’re all on this high speed train, the woman makes it explode and she jumps from a speed bike that’s going like 190 mph. She survives, the priest and the person he’s rescuing jump from this train explosion and survive, yet “black hat” just jumps up and is absorbed by the fireball from the train. They clearly showed he can jump like 50 feet in the air and could get beaten to crap and still be alright yet the fireball takes him out. Oh and as a finishing touch his CLOTH hat survives and floats down in front of “priest”. Just… blargh! That was stupid. XD *spoiler*

The main character is flat, the side characters are even more so and even a bit irritating. They don’t explain why certain cities are the way they are and just argh. I got nothing more to say on that.

Music was alright, effects were kinda cool. That’s about the only highlight this film had. It’s no wonder this film got such a low rating. It was not good at all. I won’t say it absolutely sucked cause I didn’t turn it off like I did the next movie… but it’s not worth seeing, not even once.

So now ‘Your Highness’. UGH This movie was so crude, so vile, that we ended up turning it off about 15 minutes in. We were sitting there and Micha looked at me and was all “Is this supposed to be funny? Cause it’s not.” I could not count how many sex jokes were in there and it was just the beginning of the movie. All the characters were as annoying as heck, I had hoped it might be enjoyable, it looked like a good cast, but the writing. What were they thinking?! If you thought ‘Meet the Spartans’ and ‘Epic Movie’ were bad… think again. This movie makes those look like great comedies. Avoid this one at all costs. I want my 15 minutes back…

I’m glad I went to see it. I normally don’t like the idea of all these “reboots” and prequels to films, but this summer there have actually been some really good ones, this is one of those, the new X-Men is another. Anywho, the story is interesting, paced well and keeps the viewer interested. It’s almost a two hour movie, but doesn’t really seem like it. The characters are very well developed and for once I actually felt emotion for these characters. That’s rare in movies these days; I actually cared what happened to most of them. The actors were well cast, fit their roles great, and the animation of the apes was wonderful. It’s Weta though, they always do amazing work. The music was great, by Patrick Doyle, he also made Thor which has turned into one of my new favorite scores. XD

Overall it’s a great movie, I didn’t get bored with any of it, great character development and it kept me interested in it the entire time. I think this was one of the best movies that came out this summer and definitely the best Planet of the Apes movie. I would recommend it, even if you didn’t like any of the previous Planet of the Apes movies, give this one a try. I will definitely be buying this on DVD, but it’s great to see it on the big screen at least once.

I was leery of Captain America just for the simple fact… it’s Captain America.  I mean he has those silly wings on his head and is ultra patriotic etc etc.  I thought it was going to be cheesy, like Captain Planet cheesy.  I enjoyed it though!  It was a decent set up for the Avengers movie.  Alone it’s not an amazing film, but it’s fun to watch and it keeps  you interested.  Hugo Weaving was a great bad guy, though I think they made his head a little too rubbery, it still was a pretty neat effect.  Good actors and they showed much more of Tony Stark’s father and filled in a lot of background on him. I was glad that most of the film was not about how he (Captain America) wanted to save the girl, or his romantic issues, though there was a side plot of that it wasn’t the main focus, nor was it his main motivation.  He was just an average guy that wanted to help out.  The end was kind of interesting too how they explain why he is now in the 21st century.  If you enjoyed Thor or Iron Man I’d say give this one a watch.  It’s  pretty good!

Now the Smurfs!  I thought it’d be really bad.  I had expected your typical movie where the main characters some how get mailed to NY to some single guy there that wants nothing to do with them.  They somehow get him involved with the woman of his dreams, conflict comes up and typical story unravels.  That there would be no originality to it, the acting would be bad… ya know typical kiddie movie…   But it wasn’t, and I liked that.  It actually focused around a married couple expecting a baby and it had some good themes to it.  The man is a work-a-holic pretty much, worried that his choices might ruin his career, always wanting more, and not sure of if he’s ready for a family.  Throughout the film he realizes that some things in life are more important than work and money.  Then you’ve got the clumsy Smurf that never really fits in and how he does find his place and etc.  The actor who played Gargamel was perfect for the role, and I loved the cat.  The Smurfs were pretty well done too.  Now I’m not saying this was an amazing film, far from it, but I don’t feel like I wasted my money going to see this.  It is a silly, fun family film.  If you watched the Smurfs as a kid or read the comics you’d probably enjoy it.

The effects were astounding, as always. I mean that’s the point of these movies is to watch the super detailed awesome giant robots beat the crap out of each other. I think that’s the ONLY reason to go to these movies. So if you miss it on the big screen well.. it’s not really worth owning on DVD. Wait must pay attention to the good points. So uhm there were a lot of amazing effects. Yes. Many explosions… BOOM BOOM BOOM!

The robots were pretty cool. Thank GOD the two gangsta robots are gone. YAY I was pleased for this. The new robots they added were ok. They weren’t either awesome or annoying. So… whoopeedoop. Music was typical of Transformers. It’s good but… it’s a rehash pretty much except… two songs… which I thought sucked. WOAH WOAH… I’m getting ahead of myself to the bad parts. *ahem* Uhm oh yeah, Shia Labeouf… he actually wasn’t a pussy in this one! Yay for growing a pair! He actually kicked butt and wasn’t a whiny little crybaby about anything. Cool. The designs on the new Decepticons were cool, or rather… epically awesome. I really loved seeing them smash about the screen and disintegrate people. Way cool.

The good guys did kick a lot of butt, which was cool, but… it doesn’t make up for the things I didn’t like enough for me to give this movie a high rating…

So now! On to the bad. First and foremost… the new girlfriend. HOMG I CANT STAND HER. Her and her big fishy lips and British accent and BAH. I should have kept count of all the times they gave us a butt shot of her. Her only purpose in this movie was sex appeal. Yick. I do believe she is worse than Megan Fox. She added absolutely NOTHING to this movie. Well honestly if the movie had just been about the robots I think I’d given it a bigger rating.

The second bad thing about this movie is all the random arse things that go on that contribute absolutely NOTHING to the storyline. There is like an hour of just boring filler. The first half of the movie I seriously wondered when it was going to pick up. It was just boring stuff about Shia, whatever his character’s name is, and his girl and how they’re slowly getting to the point that Decepticons are coming back. Oh and his parents… they pop up for a whole five minutes, talk about how their son has no job and how he keeps losing girls and that must be on account of his small genitalia. WHAT? Why does that need to be there? It wasn’t even FUNNY.

Now despite the awesome explosions and stuff… some of them just made you go… why did that just happen? Why didn’t they do it this way? Well of course they couldn’t do it that way it wouldn’t make for a HUGE ARSE EXPLOSION! I dunno, just seemed like they filled up a lot of places that mighta I dunno added in some cool character development of the bad guys with the humans messing up and the Decepticons making things explode around them.

Bad guys… well they were kinda ho hum to be honest. The designs are so cool but they were pretty weak. I expected a bit more from the biggest baddest prime gone turncoat. Same with Megatron, he was pretty awesome in the other two and in this one he was barely there, and when he was it was maybe ten minutes in the whole movie and then he just dies. Bah!

Overall, I do think it was a slight improvement over the second one, but it doesn’t touch the first one. The first one I enjoyed a lot, despite its flaws and yadda yadda, I liked it, but these last two sequels, I dunno. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. This one was just “ok”, I did enjoy watching it but it’s not one I think I’d watch again on the small screen. If you don’t catch it in cinemas for the sparkly effects, it’s one to just skip out on and just watch the first.

I don’t really feel like giving out any spoilers so I’m just going to leave this short. If you enjoyed the first two X-Men or Wolverine, you’ll enjoy this one a lot. This one has redeemed the series from the 3rd movie and if any more X-Men films are released I have more hope for them.

The Green Lantern…man did the early trailers for this one make it look CHEESY. Ok, now granted, a man that flies around in green spandex that controls awesome powers with a ring that looks like it’s from a cereal box is pretty cheesy to begin with, but they pulled it off rather nicely I think. The characters were enjoyable, not TOO over the top, and the story was interesting, plus it had a nice moral. The only thing that really just bugged the snot out of me was, he’s this newb and they’re teaching him, and they bash him cause he’s “human”.

So he goes home and is all boohoo I’m human I’m not good la la la. Then this HUGE threat comes and BWAH super hero! Then he goes and pleads with this alien council to get the rest of the 256456153 green lanterns of other species to help, and none of them would. so he goes back to face this nearly impossible to kill creature, succeeds and then ALL of a sudden at the end they help him. Right as he’s about to be taken down with the enemy. WHAT?! Why didn’t you just come to help kick butt in the first place? I mean this whole ARMY of lanterns, who have YEARS of experience, is up there freakin out about this horrible menace, and then ONE HUMAN takes it down with NO HELP. WHAT?! Maybe it’s something they didn’t explain well in the movie but that part just made no sense to me. Course if they did help it’d be a pretty darn short movie but hey. Then again the next main villain wouldn’t have cropped up either, but STILL that part coulda been done better.
Overall though, if you don’t think about it and try to reason that part out, it’s a pretty fun movie. Good cast, entertaining story… worth seeing.

The story was interesting, it didn’t run off in all directions like the last two did. The character stayed in character, and the new ones were enjoyable. The plot was fast paced and it didn’t feel like a two and a half hour long movie. I only became aware of the length once my bladder told me my large soda was passing through. Special effects are great, like always. Jack Sparrow, of course, steals the scene. Rather than focusing on other characters though, like they did with “Willabeth”, the focus stayed mainly on Jack. Black Beard was a pretty cool bad guy. The cast they got for this one was good. They all fit the roles great.

The score is kind of a rehash of all the old ones with some new theme. The new theme isn’t quite as catchy as the 3rd films score but it’s still pretty good. I heard the soundtrack a week earlier and had been quite disappointed in it, but I’ve found out most of the score has been cut out of the album and replaced with six awful techno remixes that just absolutely ruin it. Don’t buy the new pirates soundtrack, wait for the expanded one. The one released now is not worth it at all.

I saw this one in 3D and it didn’t make that much of a difference to me. Maybe it’s cause I was sitting in the back or maybe it was just cause it wasn’t shot in 3D, I dunno. I don’t think it was worth the 3D, it’s fine to see in regular 2D.
So my final verdict on this film is, I loved it! Way better than the last two pirates and it’s right up there with the first one. They have redeemed the pirates franchise with this movie.
