Puss in Boots

I love Puss, he’s been my favorite character from Shrek since the 2nd one came out. I completely lost interest in the Shrek movies following the release of the 3rd, I thought it was terrible, so when I first heard they were making a movie about Puss I had mixed opinions about it. I had hope for it since Puss is an interesting character on his own and the concept could be good, but the last two Shrek movies were just flat, forced humor and not that good. So I was hoping that this film wouldn’t be packed full of pop culture jokes, bad pop music and all the other things trademark of the Shrek sequels. Thankfully it wasn’t. It was funny, had good characters, no annoying music and an interesting story…maybe I’m also a little biased cause it’s full of… KITTIES. XD

Anywho, the characters are interesting, none of them did I find really annoying. I didn’t like humpty dumpty that much, but I didn’t find him obnoxious, so that was a plus. Kitty Soft-Paws was great; I liked her a lot. Puss… well I always liked him, he’s pretty much the same as you see in the other films. The cast was put together well, all of them fit their roles rather nicely. The music was good! By the same composer as X-Men First Class, Henry Jackman. Had a good Latin theme to it, very up beat. I enjoyed it, and will probably buy the score.

The story was not really what I was expecting, but that’s fine by me. It was still a silly fairytale, but very much different from the Shrek series. I liked it more actually. I just hope if they make a sequel to this, cause you know it’ll happen if it sells well in the box office, that it won’t turn into another Shrek sequel. Anyways, the movie was pretty fast paced, I didn’t get bored with it.
I did not see this film in 3D, so I cannot comment on the effects in that realm, but I honestly don’t think you need to see it in 3D to appreciate it. It was fine the way it is. Will I recommend it in theaters, sure! 3D? Well if you want to fork over the extra $5 sure. It’s a nice popcorn flick, full of funny felines, good music, and a fun story; I’ll be getting on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Lion King 3D

So I did end up going to see it cause Lion King was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid. I’ve gone to every theatrical release they’ve done of it and it’s probably my 5th time seeing it in cinema but it never gets old. The 3D added a cool effect, gave the backgrounds a lot more depth. It was kind of like the Disney view master I used to have. 2D that popped out at you. Would I recommend it? YES! I’m normally not to “ooo yay” on 3D but I liked seeing it like this. It was pretty neat. If they were to release Aladdin or something like this I would definitely give it a watch. I’m not gonna say anything on the movie cause… if you haven’t seen it or heard of it I’m going to question what rock you have been living under for the past 17 years. :P

I’ve heard it topped the box office this weekend, way to go Lion King! I hope it goes to show that it’s not 2D that is selling poorly it’s the weak story lines that have gone with it!

Rango

Rango, a spaghetti western starring a lizard. Simple enough. It reminded me of the old Don Knotts movies where he walked into town as a Dentist and then wound up being the Sheriff. Well this is kinda like that, only the lizard isn’t a dentist. The movie was pretty unique, when I saw that Nickelodeon made it I kind of shrugged it off as something that’d probably be pretty lame, but it was a pretty fun movie. The animation is really nice, character designs were definitely unique, sometimes I found the characters absolutely repulsive or creepy. haha! But that was the intention. The humor was pretty well placed, only a couple times did I kind of roll my eyes cause a joke wasn’t all that funny or that it was just randomly crude and didn’t serve a purpose.

The plot is pretty predictable, I will say, but it was kind refreshing to see this movie. Especially since they don’t really make westerns like this anymore. Soundtrack was pretty good, a lot of it was a rehash of other themes, but still unique enough. Actors were all great for their rolls. I could recognize a couple voices but they did a pretty good job with a western type accent.

*spoiler* Ok so I don’t normally throw in spoilers, this one’s not real important, but there’s a scene where all the critters are walking underground and this huge arse eye shows up. Then it’s never seen again. What was the point? Was this to imply the impending danger of the snake or was it something else? Cause the eye was HUGE way bigger than the snake’s eye. I don’t recall it ever being explained, neither did my hubby. Anyone else? *spoiler*

So my final verdict on this movie, it’s worth a watch in cinema and an own on DVD. It was a pretty fun movie, only a couple slow spots, and most of the characters were interesting. The plot, though predictable, is rather enjoyable. Go check it out! :)
