I love Puss, he’s been my favorite character from Shrek since the 2nd one came out. I completely lost interest in the Shrek movies following the release of the 3rd, I thought it was terrible, so when I first heard they were making a movie about Puss I had mixed opinions about it. I had hope for it since Puss is an interesting character on his own and the concept could be good, but the last two Shrek movies were just flat, forced humor and not that good. So I was hoping that this film wouldn’t be packed full of pop culture jokes, bad pop music and all the other things trademark of the Shrek sequels. Thankfully it wasn’t. It was funny, had good characters, no annoying music and an interesting story…maybe I’m also a little biased cause it’s full of… KITTIES. XD

Anywho, the characters are interesting, none of them did I find really annoying. I didn’t like humpty dumpty that much, but I didn’t find him obnoxious, so that was a plus. Kitty Soft-Paws was great; I liked her a lot. Puss… well I always liked him, he’s pretty much the same as you see in the other films. The cast was put together well, all of them fit their roles rather nicely. The music was good! By the same composer as X-Men First Class, Henry Jackman. Had a good Latin theme to it, very up beat. I enjoyed it, and will probably buy the score.

The story was not really what I was expecting, but that’s fine by me. It was still a silly fairytale, but very much different from the Shrek series. I liked it more actually. I just hope if they make a sequel to this, cause you know it’ll happen if it sells well in the box office, that it won’t turn into another Shrek sequel. Anyways, the movie was pretty fast paced, I didn’t get bored with it.
I did not see this film in 3D, so I cannot comment on the effects in that realm, but I honestly don’t think you need to see it in 3D to appreciate it. It was fine the way it is. Will I recommend it in theaters, sure! 3D? Well if you want to fork over the extra $5 sure. It’s a nice popcorn flick, full of funny felines, good music, and a fun story; I’ll be getting on Blu-Ray when it comes out.

So I did end up going to see it cause Lion King was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid. I’ve gone to every theatrical release they’ve done of it and it’s probably my 5th time seeing it in cinema but it never gets old. The 3D added a cool effect, gave the backgrounds a lot more depth. It was kind of like the Disney view master I used to have. 2D that popped out at you. Would I recommend it? YES! I’m normally not to “ooo yay” on 3D but I liked seeing it like this. It was pretty neat. If they were to release Aladdin or something like this I would definitely give it a watch. I’m not gonna say anything on the movie cause… if you haven’t seen it or heard of it I’m going to question what rock you have been living under for the past 17 years.

I’ve heard it topped the box office this weekend, way to go Lion King! I hope it goes to show that it’s not 2D that is selling poorly it’s the weak story lines that have gone with it!

Simple enough. It reminded me of the old Don Knotts movies where he walked into town as a Dentist and then wound up being the Sheriff. Well this is kinda like that, only the lizard isn’t a dentist. The movie was pretty unique, when I saw that Nickelodeon made it I kind of shrugged it off as something that’d probably be pretty lame, but it was a pretty fun movie. The animation is really nice, character designs were definitely unique, sometimes I found the characters absolutely repulsive or creepy. haha! But that was the intention. The humor was pretty well placed, only a couple times did I kind of roll my eyes cause a joke wasn’t all that funny or that it was just randomly crude and didn’t serve a purpose.

The plot is pretty predictable, I will say, but it was kind refreshing to see this movie. Especially since they don’t really make westerns like this anymore. Soundtrack was pretty good, a lot of it was a rehash of other themes, but still unique enough. Actors were all great for their rolls. I could recognize a couple voices but they did a pretty good job with a western type accent.

*spoiler* Ok so I don’t normally throw in spoilers, this one’s not real important, but there’s a scene where all the critters are walking underground and this huge arse eye shows up. Then it’s never seen again. What was the point? Was this to imply the impending danger of the snake or was it something else? Cause the eye was HUGE way bigger than the snake’s eye. I don’t recall it ever being explained, neither did my hubby. Anyone else? *spoiler*

So my final verdict on this movie, it’s worth a watch in cinema and an own on DVD. It was a pretty fun movie, only a couple slow spots, and most of the characters were interesting. The plot, though predictable, is rather enjoyable. Go check it out!

I’m trying to get back into them slowly. Been working on a short animation of Greykitty. I’ve got almost 50 frames so far, I’ll be posting it when I’m done. Whether I clean it up or just leave it sketchy. Also been trying to practice anatomy by just drawing with a pen so I don’t have the convenience of an eraser. Here’s a couple quick webcam shots of ‘em. I’ll be doing more and making a little gallery for them eventually. I hope to improve by doing this.

I been busy finishing off artwork for others. I’ve gone through 116 soda icons! Holy moo cow was that a lot. Designed six characters for someone, that was pretty fun. Once I can I’ll post a little preview of them.
So that’s about all I’ve got for now. That’s all for now folks!

The last three movies I’ve seen in the cinema, I just haven’t had time or motivation to slap up a review so here they are! Kind of short but I didn’t want to drop any spoilers.

Tangled, I do believe, is the best 3D animated Disney movie. Strictly Disney, nothing to do with Pixar, just to specify. I liked Bolt, but there were certain aspects I did not enjoy, and with Tangled I cannot really think of a part of the film I didn’t like. The intro is a tad on the slow side, but once the two main characters bump into each other the story takes off! All the characters are well thought out, none of them are annoying. Well I wanted to see her “mother” get punched in the face, but hey she’s the “bad guy” so that’s normal. Music is by Menken and it really shows. It’s not epic like Beauty and the Beast, but it is in the same style. The songs are sometimes, I think placed oddly, but others fit really well. I didn’t find any of them obnoxious like I did with Princess and the Frog. I will most likely purchase this one on DVD. I recommend seeing it, it looks great on the big screen.

Due Date reminds me a lot of ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ just with a different storyline, but the jist of a guy trying to get home at a certain day is the same and having an obnoxious traveling companion to deal with throughout the timeline of his trip. This movie was pretty darn funny, couple scenes were a bit crude, but for the rest I was laughing pretty hard. I won’t put out any spoilers though for anyone who hasn’t seen it and doesn’t like that kind of thing. Both lead actors were great, and the “obnoxious one” was extremely stupid and annoying but you couldn’t hate him. I don’t know what else really to say about this film, it was really funny, would be a great Friday night movie date. Will I buy it on DVD, maybe.

Unstoppable is a great thriller. There are so many tense moments it’ll have your heart pounding. I didn’t know what this movie was about really at all other than a runaway train. The trailers made it seem like it was hijacked by terrorists, kind of like that bus movie with Keanu Reeves, but no! It was all because a negligent train worker didn’t flip on the brakes to a train carrying hazardous materials. It started to roll out and then the engine engaged and it picked up speed and went out of control. What they did to try and slow it was crazy, and to be based on a real story made this movie even more interesting. Both lead actors were excellent, they portrayed the emotions great and they were built up well. That’s why this movie worked so well too, you could feel for the characters and that made it pretty intense. I know several times both myself and my husband kind of held our breath or tensed up at certain parts of the movie. I would definitely recommend seeing this one in the cinema. Does it have big shiny effects? No, not really, but you get the full impact of the film on such a large screen. It makes it that much more exciting. This is one I will buy on DVD.

So there’s my triple combo review! Hope some find it enlightening. Cheers!

I really enjoyed it, good spin on the typical super hero vrs bad guy. The storyline was good, the humor was very funny and not forced, and the actors had good chemistry. The animation was awesome, well I’ve come to expect that from Dreamworks anyways. Also waited around at the end to see one of my mentor’s names roll in the credits, Jason Schleifer. Go check out his site!

I didn’t see this one in 3D because, quite frankly, i’m tired of wearing double glasses to see a movie in the theaters. It’s kind of a pain when you already have to wear glasses 24/7 to wear more on top of that. Plus it was like $5 cheaper to avoid it. lol Yes I’m a cheapwad. BUT either way, it was a great movie. You don’t need to see it popping out at you for it to be enjoyable, aka it has a plot, and an interesting one. The characters were interesting too, I could actually feel for the main one, which… is kind of rare these days. At least for me. The sidekick was NOT obnoxious… *le gasp*

Anyways, the story was really good. There was a good moral to it and it kept chugging along even in the slower moments. It didn’t get dulled down by the emotional scenes. Good soundtrack too, there were quite a few songs popped into there, but they didn’t interrupt the flow of the film, like I find a lot these days do. As I mentioned already, the animation is excellent! I loved watching all the different expressions each of the characters pulled and the body language was conveyed uber well!

GO SEE IT!!! Support the movie. It’s totally worth it.
I saw another movie yesterday which I’ll review later, I just had to spew forth my thoughts on this one now cause it was that good.

I saw it last month, just time has escaped me. XD)
It’s not amazing but it’s not terrible either. It had a ton of potential but didn’t quite meet that potential. It was ok for a brainless cartoon. I did enjoy the pretty pictures and the 3D. Though most of the time I think it would have been just fine in regular 2D. Only a few scenes really stood out.

The story is typical, you can figure it out in the first five minutes. Though I do have to give it credit for limiting horrible pop culture jokes and stupid side kicks. The side characters did hold a bit of intelligence unlike most kiddie flicks.

The acting is fine, the only part that really made me grit my teeth was when they started “howling”. They had the actors wail er… “sing” kind of. With a bunch of “oooooooooh”. I cringed every time. Bleq. I knock 10% off the film just for the howling, that’s how much it annoyed me. Thankfully though none of the woofies broke out into an obnoxious song, and the howling didn’t last more than maybe a minute at a time.

Anyways, aside from that, the animation was pretty good. Some of it was WAY over exaggerated, which is ok, but I think they should have made them act more like wolves. Too many kiddie movies make the characters act more human unlike classic animations like Lion King, or Jungle Book. They did have human qualities but you didn’t see them doing Kung Fu moves.

Hummmm I seem to find more negative than positive, oh snap! Guess I should say something good about it. WELL! What kept it from crashing was the part in the middle where they are shipped off to Idaho. They have some pretty good comedic moments there and the two bird characters they introduce are pretty funny too. The beginning is kinda ho hum and the ending is typical.

Overall, like I said, it’s not a horrible movie, but it’s not a really great one either. It missed it’s potential big time, but it would keep the kids entertained. Unless you’re an animation enthusiast I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone over 12.

I love CSS! It’s fun stuff, until it doesn’t want to work with the layout I made once imported to WordPress, then it drives me MAD. I am going to try to get some kind of layout made up for this site soon. I did one for Jasper and it’s kinda sparked my coding bug again. BUT we’ll see, the last layout I tried to make was epic fail and I STILL can’t get it to work properly. Heh, fail.

I’m working on a whole ton of random silly things, and I have a whole pile of icon commissions. I need to motivate myself to finish. heh ah well. :P Little break for this week since my folks are coming up here to visit all of us. It’ll be nice to see them again, it’s been over a year. I hope to see a few movies in the next couple weeks too. There’s a few that look pretty good. It’s kinda crazy that it’s October already! Not that I mind but still, time has kinda flown by, even on the super slow days. lol

So till I get something worthwhile to actually talk about in my blog or a movie to review, enjoy this speed painting I did and this silly animation I have not yet finished.

I watched about a year ago, but I came across some great storyboard animatics form the film and wanted to share them. I love looking at concept art for movies and seeing what they looked like in production and then how they look afterwards. In a way I kind of wish they had made this movie in 2D. Anyways, check out the trailer and the two animatics below and then if you haven’t seen the movie, rent it!

And now for the first post of the new year! Happy 2010 folks. That has a catchy ring to it. Anyways in my movie watching endeavors I have seen, viewed, brain-fully consumed Avatar. I got like four other movies I plan on plopping on this site for review too but since Avatar is the hot topic for the moment it’ll go here now.

I first heard about it lat last year and was like oh Avatar is coming out, wait… this isn’t Avatar with that bald kid that plays with wind, this is… what… blue… people…WHAT? I was rather confused so I googled it and found that a movie called Avatar, just like the tv series, was being directed by the famed James Cameron, who I also didn’t recognize till I googled him as well.

So I started watching it and so far it seemed pretty cool, as it moved along I was like oh they put his mind in a body through computers… ok. That’s an interesting concept. Keeps going hmm ok he’s meeting a blue person and… I have to admit the graphics were awesome. The creatures in this movie are cool, well designed and animated. I kinda got lost in the cgi, and I knew it was cgi and not real but it worked. Unlike Beowulf and some of the other mostly cgi movies this one works. I dunno how they did it but they did. The weight of the creatures, the texture, everything is really just great. You know it’s not real yet it still seems like it could be.

The story, however, is kinda predictable and a bit TOO preachy. It’s blatant there is an agenda which that did bother me a bit but the eye candy kind of covers it up. I did find it lame that the blue people, yes I forgot their “species” name, can tap into living creatures via some kind of organic lan. The “mother tree” I dunno how they called it in the film now… anyways houses all the memories and such of the past generations. They can even pass souls through the tree to new bodies, but I won’t say much more on this before I give a big spoiler.

So the humans go through and want to tear down their forests to get this extremely valuable mineral/rock or whatever it is and they don’t care about the locals. Typical humans are the bad guy type thing. The few that get avatar bodies start to fall in love with the people and such and they don’t want all of it to happen, and at this point it reminds me of Disney’s Pocahontas. Only they didn’t pawn it off as historical. haha

So the main guy, who is an invalid, sent in on the project gets his avatar body and is addicted to the fact he can walk again. He is sent in to win the trust of the locals to see if he can get them to move out so they can move in and harvest the planet’s resources. However, in the process, he falls in love with the chief’s daughter, *gasp* now you see why I said it reminded me of that cartoon. He then tries to stop the “war” and the destruction of their habitat and tree of life. Hmm yea sounding REAL familiar still, minus the invalid part. I won’t say what happens next just to keep away from spoilers a bit more.

I will add that most of the characters were pretty well built up, they were either like-able or hate-able. You felt for them when something happened which is kind of rare these days in movies. At least I find it is.

I have to say James Horner did a nice job on the score. Though it did sound like a combination of “A Beautiful Mind”, “Patriot Games”, and another film I cannot think of at the moment. Although most of the themes were kind of recycled it is still pleasant to listen to. I always have enjoyed his music, but I think he’s lost his touch in coming up with new and strong themes. Amazingly the “Heritage of the Wolf” theme was not in there. On going joke that he always slips that into his scores somewhere.

Ok so I’ll wrap things up finally with, I DID enjoy this movie. The graphics and animation were quite amazing and although the story was too preachy at times it was interesting at least, even if I could correctly predict what happened next. The action and what all went on kept me entertained and it didn’t feel like a two and half hour film. Unlike *cough* New Moon *cough* where it felt like two hours was an eternity. Anyways, I would recommend it to see in the theaters and especially if it’s 3D. It’s worth seeing just for the graphics alone, I find it a shame the story didn’t match up to them, but ah well. I enjoyed it well enough and that’s all that counts I guess. I was entertained and that was the point of the movie.
