A Little Rant About New Games

I’ve been a pretty avid computer gamer since I was oh… twelve. I did ease up on gaming once I was out of high school and started into my animation stuff, but after that I suddenly was struck by the gaming bug again. However, since I have now updated my computers and they no longer run XP most of my older games won’t work. So I’ve been on a quest for some new ones that will.

I’m pretty picky when it comes to games. It has to have something that will really draw me in. I’ve had tons of games that held my attention for maybe an hour but after that I’ve lost all interest. I remember being addicted to Red Alert, Age of Empires, Petz, and some silly Pirates of the Caribbean game I had. They held my attention for hours.

Now it’s hard for me to sit down to a newer game and pay attention for more than an hour. I usually get tired of it as it gets tedious or is just really unoriginal… sometimes it’s even almost impossible to beat. I dunno but when I sit down to play a game it’s to relax and kind of just enjoy a break from everything. I don’t need to get more frustrated cause I can’t beat a level. It seems like most new games have to be hard for it to be enjoyable now. Well to me that kind of sucks the fun out of it. I don’t mind having different difficulty levels, but if I don’t want a big challenge, just blow crap up, don’t make it so impossibly hard.

The prices of games has always been pretty high when they first hit the market, which is one reason I will never buy a new game. I don’t find any game worth $40. I will buy it a year later just to save $20. I’m just not desperate for something like that, though I do enjoy games. Anyways, the thing that gets me now with games, you have to pay for most added extras. Like oh say… wanting to use it on more than one computer.

This makes me angry, cause I just recently bought a game, it came out… probably early this year or later last. It was installed on our desktop, ok that’s fine, then I sent to install it on my laptop so my hubby and I could team battle or whatever and the bloody thing won’t let me. Why? Cause I’ve already used the code. :| That Is Bull. I never remember having to buy multiple copies/licenses of a game to be able to install it on another of my OWN computers. Red Alert never, Age of Empires never… Empire Earth, nope, WHY??? I refuse to buy another copy and heck I might even not buy another game by the company for this very reason. It really cheese me off. I feel slightly ripped off, and I’m sure glad that I didn’t buy this game when it was full price, I think I would have tried to return it if I had.

I get that there’s a lot of illegal game downloads, but THIS will definitely not stop it. Maybe it’ll sucker more people in to buying more copies, but in the long run I just see it provoking more and more people to snitch it illegally online. I’m also really hating these paid downloads and how they have a limit of being replaced if your computer crashes and you don’t back it up you might just end up losing what you paid for. I guess there’s probably a way to get them back if you really want to try, but I think it’s more frustration than it’s worth. I’ve also heard of some games that you can only load like three times or something then it will lock it out? What? It’s getting pretty ridiculous.

I miss my old games that I could use on any computer and play against my friends and family. :( I have resorted to free online games, and they’re pretty cool, but I’d like a little bit more that I can play where I don’t have to pay extra for certain features that aren’t included in the free game play.

Holy…wow… cow…

I have never seen anything like this before and all it leaves me saying is WOW.  Check it out http://www.bobsgame.com/.  Why on earth would Nintendo EVER care about his stupid game?  Why does he think that holing himself up in his room for 100 days is gonna make any kind of impression on the company?  He already did that for years so what’s another 100 days?  Nobody is going to take some geeky gaming nerd that wears spiked shoulder pads seriously.  Nobody really cares about his badly named game getting published.

This guys has an ego the size of Texas to top it off.  He compares his game to some of the best out there and thinks he’s is the greatest.

I cannot finish “bob’s game” for Nintendo DS until I have the Nitro SDK!
I am supposed to receive a decision in 6-8 weeks. It has been 16 weeks!

I don’t really know what else to do!
I’m beginning to think someone at Nintendo is insanely jealous they didn’t think of it first and
wants to keep me from releasing “bob’s game!
“bob’s game” is a game by ONE PERSON, and it’s one of the GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE- if not THE BEST.
I stand alone on a mountain no other has even dared to climb. I have swam across the ocean only cruise ships could cross.
I have walked through the desert of no return. I have stepped in the footprints of none, a path never taken.
I have MADE HISTORY, and history cannot be undone. It’s too late, Nintendo.

Just browse his page and it’s riddled with these types of comments.  I have seen some “trailers” of his game and it’s mediocre at best.   I wouldn’t ever pay for a game that looks like this let alone play it for free online.  It looks boring as crap.

My other comment is, if he is so good at designing and coding games, why does his site SUCK SO BAD?

I will say one positive thing, that it’s impressive he was so dedicated to finishing it and that he spent 5 years on it.  That in itself should be reward enough to know he came up with his own game.   But now…he should get out of his room and go live life!  It’s too short to waste on something that is not gonna change anything. There’s no real acomplishment in playing video games other than  it shows you spend too much time sitting on your butt in front of a tv/computer, it’s not something you should run around bragging about.  It’s not real.

Ok I’m done having my little comment about this.

Spore Origins

This game is retardedly addictive. I bought it a few days ago off of itunes for my ipod nano, and it’s totally worth it.  I’ve already gone through all the levels. The game is $4.99 and has about 20 levels. You start out with an ameoba type creature and then as you progress you can add to it, change it’s color, add fins, eyes, feelers, scales, etc.  You swim around eating smaller spores and avoid getting eaten by larger ones or bumping into ones that have spikes or are diseased.  You don’t get past the aquatic parts, but they have left it open for an add-on which I hope they make soon. After you beat all the levels you keep your ‘spore’ and can battle it against the computer or another one of your spores. I will also add that depending on how you make your spore evolve will depend on how fast you get through the levels, some can be challenging if you add or don’t add certain things to your spore. If you are looking for a good game to burn time with try this one out. It doesn’t eat up the battery power on your ipod as fast as most games either.
