It’s Evil!
I hear it a lot. It’s evil! Don’t watch it! It’s evil! Don’t listen to it! It’s evil! Don’t buy it!
Ok? What is it that makes it evil? What is the basis of this claim?
Most often I just get the “it’s not Christian”. LAME reasoning. There’s a TON of cool stuff out there that’s non-Christian and to be quite honest, I prefer that over Christian produced things because it’s not as cheesy or childish. I can’t stand contemporary Christian music because it all sounds the same and it’s boring.
It puts me to sleep. There are a few bands that are Christian I do enjoy but it’s stuff like Demon Hunter, Skillet, Becoming the Archetype, P.O.D. etc. Everything else is just meh. Movies too, gosh most of them grab some of the worst actors, ok yes I know your budget is small but… at least find people who can act. Special effects too… most of them are remnants from the 80′s. I know it’s not THAT hard to find someone who can work with After Effects and do it for a modest budget. There are so many noobies out there that are just trying to break in… anyways.
I see a lot of people get so worked up over something simple, like Pokemon. Ok? I’ve played the games, I find nothing wrong with them. They were a super successful gimmick, just like My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe. All of these were created to market toys and other stuff to children. So why is Pokemon singled out as the “evil” one? Because someone said that Pokemon, when translated, means pocket monster and are addicting. Ok? There are other things out there just as addicting to people. I think these were singled out since they were so addicting to children, but really if you teach your children to keep things in moderation I do not see the harm. It doesn’t teach you that witchcraft is good, it doesn’t teach you magic, the characters can use moves that involve elements but that’s no worse than Avatar: The Last Airbender. I find it really silly that people were burning these cards and games.
Harry Potter is the other big one. Ok yes it’s promoting magic and wizardry, but I could say the same for A LOT of other books and movies. So why was this one targeted so much, because it become a huge success. I used to be one that stayed away from them because people said they were evil, and because it was so popular I was just sick of seeing it everywhere. I finally sat down and watched the movies and honestly, they’re not that bad. If you keep in mind it’s all a fantasy story, it’s no worse than Lord of the Rings.
It’s only when people lose touch with reality and try to immerse themselves into things like these does it become wrong. When something starts to take over your life, then it’s time to re-evaluate why you have it in your life to begin with. Nothing should ever do that. This kind of goes back to my entry about Obsessions.
I think it’s kind of sad how so many Christians are terrified to step out of their little safety bubble of Christian made media. “oh no! I might sin because I’m listening to non-Christian music!!” If you’re honestly that worried that a song is going to sway you, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your faith. Yes, things like these CAN influence you, especially when very young, so be cautious, but don’t live in a bubble. You won’t accomplish things and that’s not what God wants either. Have a stronger will, the world is going to pass you by and you’ll miss all your opportunities if you stick to the safety shelter 24/7.
Woah
The interwebs actually saved someone from going to jail. What place on the interwebs do you say? None other than Facebook. Yea usually these places get a bad wrap for connecting pedophiles, stalkers, and other baddy bad baddies, but for once it actually proved someone innocent. Amazing! Apparently this kid had updated his status at the time the crime was being committed and that was enough to prove him innocent. You can read all the gritty details here.
Moving on, remember those Mc Donald Monopoly games? Yea the ones you always scramble to collect as many pieces as possible to… ok well maybe that was only me when I was a kid, but hey! Someone did the same and she actually won the One Million Dollar prize. :O No joke! I didn’t think they actually had both of those pieces but apparently it is true. Check that out here.
And lastly I gotta make a comment about a few movies I’ve watched lately. They aren’t anything new, but I just never got around to actually watching them either because I wasn’t interested at the time they were released or I was just too young. First one, The Fountain. Dude this is a messed up movie. It’s one long mind trip. I mean wow, hard to follow, in the end it makes a bit of sense but… yeesh. I’m not a fan of movies that jump around so much like that. I enjoy thinking movies but… not like that. Second one is Requiem for a Dream. That movie is just depressing to see how low people will stoop when drugs take over their lives, or in the case of the old woman how sad it is when they unintentionally get hooked. And the last is the Futurama movies. Funny stuff, I don’t know which I like the most, all of them are pretty good. I think it’s actually better they cancelled the show cause now we get some pretty good movies and that’s just like an extra long episode with better animation.
So my question of the post for all you folks out there: What is one of the weirdest movies you’ve watched recently?
My Top 20 Animated Films Pt III
The third part of my top twenty list!
9. The Road to Eldorado
Ok granted this is one of those typical buddy films but it’s funny, the animation is awesome, and the story moves along fast. I really have always enjoyed it and I figured since it’s one of my favorites I would include it. It does have a bit of adult humor, hence the PG rating, but if you don’t mind that I recommend it. It’s a fun movie.
8. Hercules
The story is well typical hero, you know who’s gonna win, but this version is just so darn funny. I love it. It’s so colorful too. It’s pretty unique in style. It still looks Disney but there is a certain style to the animation that separates it from the rest. This is one of Disney’s best animated comedies. The characters are enjoyable, although a bit cliche, but hey! The music is pretty good, didn’t care for all the songs but most I liked or thought were funny.
7. 101 Dalmatians
I couldn’t leave this one out. It was my ultra favorite film as a small child. Then Lion King came out and that changed but I quite love it. Even to this day. The characters are great, the animation is nice and YAY no singing doggies! It follows the book to a certain extent but then deviates, which works for the movie. I still enjoy the animated version more than the live action. It’s a Disney classic and I recommend it to everyone!
This is a really old animated film, but it’s one of my favorites. It was made in the 30′s but in color. It has that old classic cartoon style, the animation is so old school. I love it! The songs are nice too. The story doesn’t really follow the book closely but eh it’s got the gist of it. It’s a fun movie for just about anyone in my opinion. I grew up with it though so I might be a little biased there.
5. The Emporer’s New Groove
I loved this movie from the time it came out. It’s great! The humor, the characters, the story, and the animation. Overall it’s a well rounded movie and *gasp* another Disney with not much singing. I think there are… two songs maybe, but nothing extreme. I like that. What more to say… it’s like the only full length movie to revolve around a llama… I think… yeah.
