It’s Evil!
I hear it a lot. It’s evil! Don’t watch it! It’s evil! Don’t listen to it! It’s evil! Don’t buy it!
Ok? What is it that makes it evil? What is the basis of this claim?
Most often I just get the “it’s not Christian”. LAME reasoning. There’s a TON of cool stuff out there that’s non-Christian and to be quite honest, I prefer that over Christian produced things because it’s not as cheesy or childish. I can’t stand contemporary Christian music because it all sounds the same and it’s boring.
It puts me to sleep. There are a few bands that are Christian I do enjoy but it’s stuff like Demon Hunter, Skillet, Becoming the Archetype, P.O.D. etc. Everything else is just meh. Movies too, gosh most of them grab some of the worst actors, ok yes I know your budget is small but… at least find people who can act. Special effects too… most of them are remnants from the 80′s. I know it’s not THAT hard to find someone who can work with After Effects and do it for a modest budget. There are so many noobies out there that are just trying to break in… anyways.
I see a lot of people get so worked up over something simple, like Pokemon. Ok? I’ve played the games, I find nothing wrong with them. They were a super successful gimmick, just like My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, G.I. Joe. All of these were created to market toys and other stuff to children. So why is Pokemon singled out as the “evil” one? Because someone said that Pokemon, when translated, means pocket monster and are addicting. Ok? There are other things out there just as addicting to people. I think these were singled out since they were so addicting to children, but really if you teach your children to keep things in moderation I do not see the harm. It doesn’t teach you that witchcraft is good, it doesn’t teach you magic, the characters can use moves that involve elements but that’s no worse than Avatar: The Last Airbender. I find it really silly that people were burning these cards and games.
Harry Potter is the other big one. Ok yes it’s promoting magic and wizardry, but I could say the same for A LOT of other books and movies. So why was this one targeted so much, because it become a huge success. I used to be one that stayed away from them because people said they were evil, and because it was so popular I was just sick of seeing it everywhere. I finally sat down and watched the movies and honestly, they’re not that bad. If you keep in mind it’s all a fantasy story, it’s no worse than Lord of the Rings.
It’s only when people lose touch with reality and try to immerse themselves into things like these does it become wrong. When something starts to take over your life, then it’s time to re-evaluate why you have it in your life to begin with. Nothing should ever do that. This kind of goes back to my entry about Obsessions.
I think it’s kind of sad how so many Christians are terrified to step out of their little safety bubble of Christian made media. “oh no! I might sin because I’m listening to non-Christian music!!” If you’re honestly that worried that a song is going to sway you, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your faith. Yes, things like these CAN influence you, especially when very young, so be cautious, but don’t live in a bubble. You won’t accomplish things and that’s not what God wants either. Have a stronger will, the world is going to pass you by and you’ll miss all your opportunities if you stick to the safety shelter 24/7.
Cool Sites and Wolverine
If anyone out there is like me and enjoys making videos, whether it be animated, slideshow, or an AMV you know that finding good music is hard and finding free good music is even harder. With all the restrictions youtube has been imposing on people lately I have had the tracks muted on many of my speed paintings and art slideshows so I have been forced to find different music that is Creative Commons. Which most of the tracks youtube supplies as “replacement” music are horrid or old timey classical, not that I mind that, but if I want something upbeat or epic, they don’t have it. So I found another site called Jamendo. Great site with some pretty good freeby music. I haven’t found anything absolutely but it’s better than most music I have found out there and best of all you can use it freely in your videos.
Second site I wanna show is to kill some boredom. My buddy LEA showed it to me and was like FIGHT MY BRUTE!!!! So I was all SURE!!!! and that’s how it started. XD So go check out My Brute.
I went to see Wolverine on da big screen and I loved it!
Great movie, great effects and it was cool to see Wolverine’s beginning. I don’t think I pictured it that way but I liked how they made it. I thought this X-Men movie was much better than the 3rd. I think they butchered the characters personalities in the third too much and they killed off what four of them?? Yea anyways, if you like X-Men, and if you’re like me and love Wolverine, check out the newest movie. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and upon browsing pictures for the film I found this… Ok that’s just nasty and WTF fanboy much?
Lastly, anyone know how to get rid of a nasty plastic taste in a bottle? I got this nalgene bottle and after water sits in it for a few hours it starts tasting like the bottle. I have tried soaking it in Vinegar for a night, tried baking soda and still it haunts me. Any suggestions?
Calcium Water
So I’m sitting here drinking this bottled water and wondering…why does it have calcium in it… it even says on the bottle “rich in Calcium”. Why? That’s what drinking milk is all about. Ah well.
Well as anyone who knows me somewhat well can tell you, I am addicted to movie scores. I love them. I own about 300 of them on CD and have about 150 more albums with just MP3. I have loved them since I was a kid. I still remember my first soundtrack, ‘The Little Mermaid’ on casette tape. I loved it. Anyways I was thinking the other day about some of my favorite scores and how a lot of them are severly underrated and some that are just extremely hard to find.
Black Beauty is one of my all time favorite scores and my top favorite Danny Elfman score. It’s beautiful and brings so much emotion to the film. It is very different from most of Elfman’s scores. It can sway your emtion with its themes which range from light and merry to solemn and morose. Many of the tracks have a dreamish type feel to them, or like you are running through the memories of the character. It fits the movie so well. I find it a shame that this score is out of print, it is one of the best ones I have heard in years. Find it on ebay, buy it at a garage sale, or find a download somewhere online. It is really worth having.
Moving on is another one of my favorite soundtracks. You wouldn’t really expect a Disney kids movie to have very powerful music, but I find that the Air Bud theme is very well done. It’s one of my favorite ones as well. This score in my opinion is very underrated. There’s a lot of great music from this movie, and a wide range of it too. Sadder themes of when Josh says goodbye to Buddy or remembers his father, to funny parts where Buddy is trashing the gym and house, to the best theme of the whole soundtrack, when Josh discover’s Buddy’s talent. This soundtrack is still somewhat easy to find on amazon or ebay and at a reasonable price. It is worth a buy.
I will add other scores I love next time I blog…might post one or two mini reviews like this at a time.
So now I would love to hear from anyone reading this what some of their favorite soundtracks are and why. So feel free to leave a comment. I love hearing from the people who visit my site. It makes my day.
