Bolt
Well I said I was going to see it but a bunch of people I know had been telling me how good this movie is so I decided to, and honestly… it was pretty good. So here’s my mini review of it.
Since Disney’s track record with 3D movies, where they have gone solo with no help from Pixar, has been really pretty bad I had no expectations for this movie other than low. The trailers made it look like another spazzy 3D animal movie with overused jokes. Thankfully I was really surprised it’s actually worth watching.
The story was predictable in the disney way, but there were no really overused jokes in it and the humor that was there wasn’t forced. The characters were well done, even though I absolutely hated the hamster I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the dumb things he would do. The only character I didn’t like at all was Penny, but she didn’t have a huge part in the movie. Mittens and Bolt were my favs, and it’s funny I usually never like the main characters the best. Amazing, there was no singing in it! Well one song that played in the background but no characters burst into a musical number. The score was ok, not really outstanding but not bad either. The animation was stellar, like with all Disney movies. I found most of the characters’ designs attractive too, so that was another plus to the movie.
Overall I’d say it’s worth watching, maybe even buying. So far it is the best 3D film Disney has produced yet.

Old Animations & Madagascar 2
I’ve posted up some of my really old animations which haven’t been online for quite some time now. Go head and check em out, they are on the art gallery page…stuff I made before I knew what I was doing. lol!
In other newz…
I been thinking of adding some of my movie reviews back up on this site. Most of the ones I have saved were from my keyframeonline account so mainly animated films. I watched Madagascar 2 recently so I figure I’ll post my little review in the updates this time. Might do this more often…at least gives me something to type about.
I didn’t have uber high expectations from this one, and the only reason I watched it was because one of my mentors worked on it and was really jazzed about it.
The story was a lot different from the original and I think even the characters were a bit… out of character, especially Melmin the Giraffe. All four are trying to get back to New York and the pengiuns are flying the junker plane, King Jullian and his comrade and the two monkies also tag along. They end up crash landing in Africa where Alex discovers his long lost family and that he’s the next in line to lead the pride. The rival lion, who’s name I forget, sets him up so he must be banished and then rival takes his place as “king”. Alex then has to prove himself worthy to all the animals and his father etc.Overall it was a pretty interesting storyline but they crammed WAY too much stuff into it so some parts were rushed. Aside from the lion rival part, which was kind of cliche, they had a side story about Marty and his zebra look a likes, Gloria and Melmin’s corny romance, and the penguins and monkies evil plot to steal tourist jeeps for rebuilding the plane. The first movie had me rolling on the floor with laughter and the second was just a chortle here and there.
The music in this movie is honestly some of the worst I have ever heard come from Hans Zimmer. The songs by will.i.am are terrible too. It was a bad combo to mix the two. There were a few snippets from the original score in it which were good but that’s it.
The animation was really good though, like usual. I can’t say I have ever seen poor animation come from Dreamworks. Character designs are wonky but they were in the first.
Overall would I recommend it? Only if you really liked the first one and I would only recommend it for a rental. I don’t think it’s worth buying a theater ticket for this one. This movie probably would have made a good direct to DVD release.
So that’s about it for this entry, will be posting more stuff soonish. =)
